AKTHESAVIOR

AKTHESAVIOR has been a creative dynamo for more than a decade straight. Hailing from Brooklyn, NY, his musical career began as one half of The Underachievers who quickly rose to acclaim with their powerfully meaningful lyrics. In the aftermath of their 3 albums, AK has embarked on solo projects of all sorts, which include making albums, paintings, anime books, a jewelry line and more. Hell, he just walked in a KID SUPER runway show at Paris fashion week. A phrase he returns to often is “get out and create”, which is tattooed on his wrist. It is a phrase he fully embodies. In an age where many artists ask the listener to “look at me”, AK asks the listener to look inward.

How do you utilize cannabis in your work?

So I smoke weed a whole lot throughout the day, like every single day. But before I even get to smoking weed, I like to have a phrase that I say is get on Create, I like to get on my bed and create something from my daily agenda list, whatever it is either reading a book, writing a verse for a song, or just exercising simple things like that. I like to smoke while I create. And after I create, when I create, I just play like the beat or something, I listen to the beat while smoking my weed. Then I write lyrics smoking the weed laid down and put it out because I can't smoke and rap at the same time. I don't know, it makes me feel like vibe to whatever I create more when I'm high for some reason. It just feels nice to me. Most my fans is high all the time anyway. So like recording music, in their perspective and listen to it in their perspective in the sense.

If you could give yourself advice a year ago, what would you say?

To keep going no matter like the obstacles or whatever hardship comes in your way. Because this past year, there was ups and downs in my life, I was definitely doubtful at times. Like I definitely wanted to quit at sometimes, like some people don't believe that. And I didn't have anyone to tell me to keep going. So I would give myself that advice to keep going through all the dark times. Because the end result is once you keep going, you're going to eventually achieve your goals and that's going to make you happy

What’s the craziest thing you’ve experienced high?

My brother, the strain was blue dream, the location was Austin, Texas. The event was South by Southwest. And anybody that was there that year would know what I'm talking about. There was a car going around, and they were throwing out a bunch of swishers. We grabbed like five of them. And we went to Dam Funk and Peanut Butter Wolf show—there was probably about like, 1800 people in the crowd. I'm super faded. Blunt in my mouth. I'm just like, bro, I'm gonna go to the front of the stage and I'm getting this fool to hand me the mic. I don't know why. I guess it was just a weed confidence or something. I go up to the front and I'm like “Dam Funk bro. Please let me rap bro. Please let me rap something please. I'll give you this blunt. Come on, bro.” And he’s just looking at me like I'm crazy. But I don't know, he sees me smoking. And he's like, (gives a thumbs up) I'm just like, come on, bro. Like halfway through his set, he's just annoyed from me saying that, and he hands me the mic and I just started spitting a verse that came into my head. And like the crowd thinks is a part of the show. Like somebody's just like, handing me more weed, my homies in the very back were just like, “ROD, ROD!”. I run back to them. I'm like I'm done. Let's go still after that. We just kept smoking. I think it was the blue dream and I'm not really like a sativa type of do but that's what it did for me.
